You won’t find any throwaway plastic bags at its grocery stores or plastic straws at its fast food chains. But California’s water supplies are loaded with disease-causing human feces thanks to the state’s leftist political establishment.
While vocally claiming to be champions of the environment, California’s Democrat politicians have allowed out-of-control homelessness to destroy the American River near Sacramento, the Santa Ana River in Orange County, and the San Diego river in San Diego – not to mention the ocean beaches where these rivers drain.
By putting illegal aliens over legal citizens and vagrants over property owners, California has created a Third World underclass that’s setting up its own tent cities along the state’s most critical waterways, which has created a major public health hazard.
Up in Sacramento, families with children can no longer enjoy the American River’s Discovery Park, which used to be a fun, safe place for locals to cool off in the summertime. Now, Discovery Park is jam-packed with homeless tent cities, along with all of the trash, drug needles, and poop that goes along with them.
Back in December, water quality tests revealed that river water in Discovery Park tested at more than 27 times the safe limit for E. coli, a type of fecal bacteria. E. coli levels actually soared so high there that laboratory equipment could no longer properly measure it.
“Don’t walk, wade or swim without shoes, used needles have been strewn throughout the park,” one Californian wrote in a Yelp review about Discovery Park. “I found crack heads, hookers, and crazy people screaming obscenities and throwing punches at anyone who came too close.”
“I have been threatened by homeless trying to hit me, bitten by a homeless person’s dog,” wrote another. “I have seen cleanup crews load as many as [four] bins the size of railroad cars with trash and it still isn’t enough.”
Sacramento County refuses to pinpoint humans as the source of all that E. coli, instead choosing to blame the “intestines of mammals – from wildlife to humans.” One has to read between the lines a bit to decipher what’s really going on here.
At Tiscornia Beach, which is located at the confluence of the American and Sacramento Rivers, E. coli levels have been calculated at levels so high that a college professor referred to the water as “diluted sewage.”
The problem also extends to Southern California where the Santa Ana River supplies water for much of Orange County (located next to Los Angeles). Homeless encampments all along this mostly concrete riverbed are polluting the water with trash and feces, which is putting public health at risk.
The same is true for the San Diego River, into which the San Diego Water Board actually had to petition local agencies to “curtail the flow of human fecal matter.”
All of this human waste pollution eventually makes its way to Pacific Ocean beaches where surfer surfs and children play, just as they long have at Discovery Park and other natural areas across California that are now ruined, so long as the homeless are permitted to have free reign.
The irony of all this is apparently lost on California’s politicians, who love to pretend as though the Golden State is an environmental leader when in fact it’s one of the most polluted states in the country thanks to skyrocketing vagrancy.
“While movies like Dark Waters depict corporate villains who cover up environmental catastrophes that harm families, in California, it’s the party of the environmentalists that has overseen an unprecedented environmental catastrophe that has affected some of the state’s major rivers and drinking supply,” writes Daniel Greenfield for Frontpage Mag.
“And it’s the Democrats and their leftist organizations who have been covering up the threat.”
